Neighborhood Watch Banners, Oaxaca 2006

In September, 2006, the striking teachers and APPO (Asamblea Popular del Pueblo de Oaxaca) continued their commitment to a nonviolent movement. Unfortunately, some of them were killed and there was always the threat of hired thugs, plain-clothes police or robbers abusing people in the movement. For their protection, Neighborhood Watch programs were set up. I walked the streets of the neighborhoods around the Zocolo and took the following pictures of the banners that notified the public:
Neighbors United For Your Security
Vigilant Neighbors, United Against Crime
Vigilant Neighbors, United Against Crime
Criminal! We Are Watching You.
Neighbors United Against Crime. Vigilant Neighborhood, area of Colon and Fiallo.
