Now that I'm Back
Writing poems
It took shape in my mind
That everything is poetry
On a subway ride downtown
A crazy dame got on
Spoke out her madness
In wild admonitions
Spit it out in free verse
But didn't know it
Dirty linen! she screamed
It's all dirty linen, Harry!
(Her invisible husband)
You think your armpits don't smell?
The rear end is ... for doing your duty
And nothing else
Am I right?
We all stayed mute
She said she'd call a cop
And have us all arrested
Dirty linen! she scowled
A transvestite
Whispered to a Black lady near him
Isn't it awful?
