| The Poetry of Rodrigo Villegas |
The cruel undoing ways of time
Song romance, champagne was thine
But danced themselves to empty arms
Time has been unkind
Though Gilbert held the line so well
Slightly grey with a sway
Gave up at 88 beloved cigars
Now awaiting 90 like a giant oak
or vintage car
To play the final roll
One day he'll come down crashing
In silence like a star
to make the magic flow
You too my friends will have to go
Al least you're free to try
But always in the proper mood
We flip the dial, the movies sooth
And there upon the tube will play
Four dozen decades past
Since flying down to Rio - Hey
Young Cesar moves his ass
To Samba sway
While Carmen heaves a hearty laugh
So clear the path my friends
Just clear the way
For fun begins once more
Settle down upon your couch
While romance, palm trees dance
Upon some tropic shore
There goes the great illusion
That will play and play and play again
And Play somemore
Then finally play no more
